ABSTRACT
Introduction:
Breast cancer is the most common malignancy among women worldwide. Mastectomy remains a frequently applied treatment method; however, it may considerably affect physical, emotional, and social well being. Assessing health related quality of life (HRQoL) in this population is essential for planning supportive care.

Aim of the research:
To assess the quality of life of women after mastectomy using standardized questionnaires (QLQ-C30 and QLQ BR23).

Material and methods:
The study included 263 women after mastectomy, recruited through Amazon Clubs and oncology centers in Poland. Data were collected using a proprietary questionnaire and the EORTC QLQ C30 and QLQ BR23 instruments. Spearman’s rank correlation coefficients (r) were calculated. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05.

Results:
Women reported difficulties across physical, emotional, cognitive, and social domains. Emotional distress was significantly associated with poorer functioning and greater symptom severity in the QLQ C30 and BR23 subscales. Older age and longer time since surgery showed statistically significant negative correlations with numerous functioning domains, indicating lower functioning and in these domains. Sexual functioning and interest in sexual life were among the lowest rated areas.

Conclusions:
Mastectomy is associated with poorer HRQoL in women, particularly in emotional, physical, and social functioning. Older age and longer time since surgery are associated with poorer functioning, highlighting the need for long term supportive care. Psychological distress was associated with multiple HRQoL domains, emphasizing the importance of psycho oncological support.
